The Peoria Charter School Initiative announced the principal of the new school today.  Engin Blackstone was introduced to the community at a press conference held at RiverWest.  Blackstone discussed his experience with charter schools, student application process and he also announced several upcoming community forums.  Follow the links below for details.

PeoriaCounty has been recognized by Monster.com as one of the best places to receive a pay raise.

 

The article "The Best Cities for Getting a Pay Raise: Where Can You Find Growing Job Markets and Rising Wages?" lists Peoria County as one of the top 335 largest US counties with rising wages and job growth.

Well over 100 people were in attendance for the Economic Climate 2010 presentation Thursday morning. 

The Economic Development Council For Central Illinois, The Heartland Partnership and the Peoria Area Chamber of Commerce hosted the event with presenters representing the regional growth industries. 

Speakers shared insights into trends happening in their industries and how their businesses have changed as a result of the recent recession.

The City of Peoria is collaborating with Peoria County and other organizations to apply to become one of Google's ultra-high speed broadband network test sites.

 

At a press conference this week (February 23rd) Peoria Mayor Jim Ardis and others shared their enthusiams on the project and encouraged the community to get involved.  Watch the video below!

Early on we told you that fear was a catalyst of the recession. We predicted once consumers started to see things stabilizing, fear would subside. We are happy to report that we are starting to see signs of stabilization in our economy and it indeed is affecting consumer confidence in a positive way. We talked with President and CEO of The Heartland Partnership Jim McConoughey about the signs of stabilization.

As you may have recently heard, Google announced an effort to bring 1Gb internet service to a test market somewhere in the United States. This would be a phenomenal service that would deliver speed up to 100x faster than the best current system available.

Join us for a rally and informational meeting about the Illinois Fair Map Amendment Saturday, February 20, at 9:30 am at Childers Banquet Center at 3113 Dries Lane at Forrest Hill in Peoria. 

This is a statewide redistricting reform campaign that includes a citizen's petition drive with a goal of making redistricting more transparent and accessible in Illinois.  The Peoria Area Chamber of Commerce is assisting in the local effort.  The initiative is also backed by Illinois Chamber of Commerce, League of Women Voters of Illinois, Illinois Farm Bureau and many other organizations around Illinois.
