The Economic Development Council for Central Illinois has unveiled it's new economic development book.  “OPEN!” is a step-by-step guidebook created by professionals with a proven track record for creating jobs. Nearly 200 regional leaders attended the 2012 Regional Economic Development Summit to learn more about how regionalism and collaboration can grow our economy. The Economic Development Council for Central Illinois hosted the event in an effort to keep dialogue, regarding regional development, open and moving forward.

Nearly 700 people attended the annual State of the City Address in Peoria to find out what’s in store for Peoria in 2012.  At the event, hosted by the Peoria Area Chamber of Commerce, Mayor Jim Ardis said “I’m glad 2011 is history.  It was another challenging year at City Hall – as it was for many of you – but overall the accomplishments were more numerous than the setbacks.”

The unemployment rate for the Greater Peoria Region remained stable during December 2011.  The Peoria MSA's monthly unemployment rate for December was 8.1%, up from 7.9%.  The City of Peoria and Woodford County's unemployment rate were unchanged.  The City of Pekin, Peoria County and Tazewell County saw rates rise slightly during December.  This information is compiled monthly by the EDC.   Click here to view charts.

The Small Business Scorecard shows a promising trend of small business owners expressing optimism about the economy.  The report shows optimism is up 63%, 50% of small businesses plan to hire in 2012 and 56% plan to increase wages this year.  Click here for the full story from SurePayroll.
