Cat Announcement Has Major Economic Impact

Caterpillar Inc. recently announced plans for significant new investments to its manufacturing facilities in East Peoria and Decatur.  The EDC’s economic impact modeling estimates those 300 jobs will spur an additional 162 indirect, induced and/or support type jobs to the region and to add $260M to regional economy.  Click here for full report.

October Unemployment Flat

The unemployment rate for the Peoria MSA remained flat in October at 8.3%.  The labor force continues to grow, as well as number of employed workers.  A steady unemployment rate is considered positive because the number of jobs created remains on pace with the expanding labor force.  The unemployment rates for the City of Peoria, City of Pekin, Peoria County, Tazewell County, and Woodford County also remained flat, with no municipality experiencing more than 0.1% monthly change.  This report is created each month by the EDC.  Click here for full report.

Don't Take It For Granted

If you missed the Chamber’s Thanksgiving Luncheon last month be sure to watch the community narrative delivered by Caterpillar CFO Ed Rapp.  It was called “Don't Take It for Granted: Your country, your community, your family.”   Click here to watch the video.

Make a Difference Thru Reading

Many employees of The Heartland Partnership are volunteering their time with Reading Buddies, an organization designed to encourage students (focused on third graders) to find pleasure in books and reading.  One of the United Way's 10-year goals is to improve education, and cut the number of high school dropouts — 1.2 million students, every year — in half.  Our staff and others are working to help to achieve this goal, improve community value and drive our regional economy thru the Reading Buddies Program.  We hope you will get involved too.

To learn more call us at 495-5900.

Heartland Partnership Holiday Hours

The Heartland Partnership offices  will close for the holidays at noon on Friday, December 23rd and reopen on Tuesday, January 3rd, 2012.
