Peoria, IL (November 20, 2009)—The Peoria Area Chamber of Commerce held the 34th Annual Community Thanksgiving Luncheon today at the Embassy Suites & Riverfront Conference Center sponsored by CEFCU.  Over 600 community members, leaders, and business professionals came together to reflect on the past year and gave thanks to those who have made our regional accomplishments possible.

Keynote speaker, Methodist Medical Center CEO Michael Bryant, spoke about where this region is now versus where it was in 2000 and encouraged those in attendance to recognize the growth and development that has occurred.  Mr. Bryant said “We have a lot to be thankful for when you look at all that has happened in the past few years.”  He challenged attendees to remain positive and upbeat during this difficult economic period.

The Tom Connor Award for Volunteer Community Service, sponsored by MassMutual Financial Group, was presented to Mr. Timothy Cassidy, President of the Peoria Park District.  This award is presented annually to a tri-county volunteer who has shown outstanding long-term commitment to the community.

The Community Wealth award, sponsored by CEFCU, was presented to south Side Mission.  The Heartland Partnership established this award in 2005 to recognize a non-profit organization that works towards creating a brighter future in our community and makes it a better place to live.

This is an annual event for the Peoria Area chamber of Commerce.
