Durbin Talks About Debt and Jobs Crisis
Senator Dick Durbin made a stop at The Heartland Partnership to meet with a small group of community and business leaders and discuss the downgrading of the government’s credit rating and the agreement to raise the nation’s debt ceiling. He shared his thoughts on the bi-partisan joint congressional committee that will look for an additional $1.5 trillion in deficit reduction and explained why Congress needs to turn its attention to America’s jobs crisis and the need for smart, sustainable economic growth.

Local Businesses are Touched by Angels Central Illinois Angels announced an $835,000 investment in two local companies. In two years, CI Angels has closed eight deals & invested over $2.3 million in six companies. This most recent investment announcement includes a $525,000 investment in Lumec Control Products and a $310,000 investment in Endotronix.

Byway Receives $99,000 Grant The Illinois River Road National Scenic Byway was awarded a $99,000 USDA Rural Business Enterprise Grant. This will enable the Byway to engage small businesses in the 10 surrounding counties and will help create as many as 10 new full time positions.

Good News for Warehouse District Illinois Governor Pat Quinn signed a bill making Peoria eligible to apply for historic tax credit status as part of the Peoria Warehouse District redevelopment project. If accepted, a large portion of the Peoria Warehouse District redevelopment project will be tax exempt, making the area more attractive to developers and others who would bring additional jobs and revenue to the region.

Supporting the United Way Thousands of volunteers give their time every year to better our region. This source of energy helps to ensure the area is upholding its standard of a high “quality of place”. The Heartland Partnership continues to be a partner of The United Way in its annual Live United campaign and just last month the Economic Development Council volunteered with the Children’s Home Association. The entire team took the morning to paint a barn for the organization. We encourage you to get involved too.

Author Visits Peoria Journalist and author Nick Redding visited Peoria last week to gain some insight in to the region's people and business practices. Redding, a Midwestern native, is in the early stages of research for his next book highlighting the Midwestern Region. We'll keep you posted on his progress. |

Peoria MSA Boosts State Tourism
The Peoria MSA contributed to the state tourism increase by generating $447.3 million in 2010. According to the U.S. Travel Association, visitors to the overall region (covering 10 counties) generated nearly $836.6 million in local economic impact in 2010. Click here for full report.
