Peoria, IL (November 20, 2009) – The annual Tom Connor Award for Volunteer Community Service was awarded Friday November 20th during the Peoria Area Chamber of Commerce’s 34th Annual Community Thanksgiving Luncheon.  This award is sponsored by MassMutual Financial Group and presented each to a tri-county leader who has shown long term commitment to this community, someone who has put forth time and effort to make this a better place to live and work, someone who is dedicated to seeing this community succeed in every way possible.

This year’s recipient is Timothy Cassidy.  He has served on the Park District board of trustees for 22 years.  He played an integral role in the Peoria Zoo expansion, the Riverplex, and the Riverfront Development.  He was instrumental in establishing the Heart of Illinois Special Recreation Association and is involved with March Madness, PARC, Peoria Notre Dame Parent Board Association, Peoria County Bar Association and more.

Those who nominated Tim describe him as someone who:  “quietly, intelligently and highly effectively gets things done”, “sets an example by working hard and truly making a difference”, “played a leadership role in increasing the quality of life for the entire community”, “believes in the value and potential of every individual and brings out the best in others” and “is an effective and trusted leader and public servant.”
